Abstract
- Presents the authors' views on the social cost of underage drinking in the United States. Interventions to reduce underage drinking that were suggested by a National Academy of Sciences committee; Idea that a societal shift in norms is needed to reduce youth access to alcohol; Strategies for enhancing the deterrent effects of existing laws, including comprehensive community initiatives like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Saving Lives program in Massachusetts, New Futures nonprofit advocacy organization, and the Concord Pilot Project in New Hampshire.
