Abstract

Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the valleys, and plains to the west of the Sierras Centrales in Argentina oscillated between their relations with Cuyo and the attraction of the city of Córdoba. The mountain range and its many rivers were a significant orographic obstacle and helped to give these communities a distinctive identity.
