Abstract

This article is a response to a correspondence regarding a study comparing the efficacy of a paraffin-based moisturizer and a ceramide-based moisturizer in children with atopic dermatitis. The authors acknowledge that the concentration of ceramides in the moisturizer used may be lower compared to other available moisturizers, but the study aimed to reflect the choices available in a typical clinical setting in India. They explain that many ceramide-containing moisturizers follow a similar formulation approach where ceramides are not the sole or primary ingredient. The authors agree that further research using ceramide-based moisturizers with higher concentrations and without paraffin would be beneficial. They appreciate the suggestion to incorporate nomenclature for better standardization in future research. Overall, the study aimed to evaluate the products as they are commonly used in clinical practice and looks forward to more research in this area to improve patient care. [Extracted from the article]
