Mickalene Thomas is an artist who has been exploring Black femininity through various mediums for over two decades. Her collages, made with rhinestones, acrylic, paper, and enamel, feature figures cut out from her own studio photographs, vintage Jet magazine calendars, and other archival images. Thomas uses glitter, vibrant patterns, and surprising textures to place Black women at the center of her work.
