Abstract

Asbjørn Aase, a renowned geographer, passed away in 2024 at the age of 91. He was the first geography professor at the University of Trondheim and made significant contributions to the field. Aase focused on social-geographical inequalities in Norway and conducted research on regional planning, welfare geography, and health geography. He also played a role in promoting research and teaching cooperation with universities in Ghana. Aase held administrative roles at the Research Council of Norway and the University of Trondheim, and after retiring, he wrote books about the history of the Department of Geography and his own academic journey. He was a member of prestigious scientific societies and was recognized for his contributions. Aase had a passion for music, skiing, and cycling, and was known for his hospitality and sense of humor.
