Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) and kinesiological tape (KT) applications to hamstring muscle on balance and agility in track and field athletes. The study included 45 (KTG=15, IASTMG=15, Control Group=15) track and field athletes (short distance running and long distance running) aged 10-30 years. Using a simple randomisation method via a computer-generated list, participants were assigned to three groups: kinesiological taping (KTG) to one group, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTMG) to another group and a control group (CG). Balance and agility parameters of all three groups were evaluated before and after the intervention using the Star Excursion Balance Test and Agility T-test. While the agility findings of IASTM and KT groups showed significant difference within the group (p<0.05); CG did not show a significant change within the group (p>0.05). In the post-intervention comparison, agility did not show a significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). While the Star Balance Test showed significant improvements in the right and left in all three groups (p<0.05), there was no significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). It was observed that IASTM and KT applications had positive acute effects on balance and agility and were not superior to each other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
