Abstract

A recent study published in the National Science Review discusses the development of a novel nano-contrast agent for monitoring and evaluating kidney transplants. The scarcity of donor kidneys has led to an increasing number of patients waiting for transplants, making it crucial to improve the survival rate of transplanted kidneys. The researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen developed a NIR-II aggregation-induced emission (AIE) contrast agent called DIPT-ICF, which demonstrated high brightness, long circulating times, and high photostability. The agent was successfully used to monitor various stages of kidney transplant surgeries, including visualizing renal vasculature, observing surgical complications, and diagnosing glomerular filtration barrier injuries. This study presents a promising strategy for monitoring and evaluating renal transplantation in the clinic. [Extracted from the article]
