Abstract

This article discusses the factors that influence wound healing and scar management. It emphasizes the importance of considering environmental factors, such as restrictive diets like veganism and nontobacco smoking (vaping), which can impact wound health. Studies have shown that vegan patients may have poorer wound healing outcomes due to deficiencies in iron and vitamin B12, which are essential for collagen production. Similarly, vaping can lead to vasoconstriction and increased oxidative stress, which can disrupt the healing process. The authors recommend that dermatologists inquire about these lifestyle factors when counseling patients on expected outcomes after skin surgery. [Extracted from the article]
