Relationship of stress level on salivary flow rate and salivary calcium.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between stress levels with salivary flow rates and salivary calcium. This type of this research is observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. The number of samples in this study were 31 subjects who would carry out the student oral case analysis (SOCA) exam. Subjects were asked to fill out the DASS-42 questionnaire and asked to spit the saliva with spitting techniques, then the salivary flow rate samples were measured using a digital scale and salivary calcium was analyse using a DiaSys kit and measured with spectrophotometer. Pearson correlation test was used to correlate stress and salivary flow and salivary calcium. The significantly were considered if p<0.05. Pearson correlation test results showed no significant relationship between stress levels with salivary flow rate with p = 0.579 (p> 0.05), and no significant relationship between stress and salivary calcium, with p = 0.754 (p> 0.05). Stress has no relationship with salivary flow rate and salivary calcium. Further experiment is required to find out the salivary biomarker related with acute mental stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
