Abstract
- In this paper, a new metamaterial absorber (MMA) is presented that exhibits resonances at 3.5 GHz and 13 GHz having peak absorption of 92.7% and 99.99% respectively. The MMA consists of an FR4 substrate with three interconnected circular rings and disk-shaped metallic layers at the top and full copper at the back. The overall dimension is 0.14λ0 × 0.14λ0, where λ0 is calculated at 3.5 GHz. The design is optimized through numerical simulation performed in CST microwave studio. The MMA shows polarization angle and incident angle insensitivity up to 60° for both transverse electric and transverse magnetic waves. The equivalent circuit is modeled and verified through simulation in Advanced Design Software (ADS). It exhibits an almost zero polarization conversion ratio with a maximum value of 0.002 at 13 GHz. The prototype of the MMA is developed and the measured result shows good similarity with the simulation. Due to polarization and incident angle intensity, and good absorption, this compact MMA can be applied in wireless communication systems including wave shielding from 5G signals, and microwave sensing.
