Abstract

This article discusses the challenges facing agriculture in Africa, such as low productivity, climate change, and issues of obesity and undernutrition. The African Potato Association (APA) is working to address these challenges by promoting research, production, and utilization of potatoes and sweet potatoes in Africa. The article highlights the 12th Triennial African Potato Association Conference, which focused on using potato and sweet potato innovations to create resilient and healthier agri-food systems. The conference covered topics such as breeding, sustainable seed systems, pest and disease management, and policies for achieving impact at scale. Collaboration and dissemination of research findings are emphasized as crucial for ensuring that technical innovations have a meaningful impact on food and nutrition security. The article also mentions a special issue of the African Potato Association's journal, which covers various aspects of potato and sweet potato production in Africa, including seed systems, pest management, marketing, and policies. The document expresses gratitude to the authors, editor, and technical editor for their contributions to the special issue. The next triennial meeting of the African Potato Association will take place in Kampala, Uganda in 2025. [Extracted from the article]
