Abstract

This article provides an update on the trends in North Atlantic winter jet stream wind speeds and turbulence. The authors used data from the Global Aircraft Data Set (GADS) and European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) to analyze the wind speeds over a 22-year period. The results show that the previously observed increase in wind speeds is no longer statistically significant when three additional years of data are included. The authors also discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on aircraft observations and the need for more years of data to reach a conclusive result. [Extracted from the article]
