Propuesta metodológica para determinar el núcleo semántico de los gestos emblemáticos.

Four elements are involved in the configuration of emblematic gestures or emblems: form, meaning, use, and their associated lexical units. These elements are intrinsically and dependently related in communication, but not univocally: for the same gesture, different verbal exponents can appear sharing the same meaning. The goal of this work is to determine a methodology that establishes the semantic core of these gestures in order to use it as a homogeneous and systematic name when referring to them in research, repertoires, and kinesic dictionaries. To do this, we propose a list of non-exclusive criteria consisting of the following: an analysis of the iconic relationship between meaning and form; a recognition and naming test in native speakers; an examination of gestural inventories; and an analysis of the different lexical units associated with each gesture, as well as their linguistic markedness, in dictionaries.
