Abstract
- This letter to the editor discusses a scoping review conducted by Zitek et al. on the palmaris profundus muscle variant and its role in carpal tunnel syndrome. The authors of this letter express their appreciation for the thoroughness of the review and highlight the potential misclassification of the flexor carpi radialis brevis (FCRB) variation as the palmaris profundus type 1 variation in surgical reports. They provide detailed anatomical descriptions of both variations and emphasize the importance of correctly identifying these muscles during surgical procedures. The authors suggest that the underrepresentation of palmaris profundus type 1 variations in surgical case reports may be due to the standard scope of the surgical procedure. They also note the potential confusion caused by similarities in nomenclature. The letter concludes by acknowledging the value of Zitek et al.'s work and aims to raise awareness of the potential underrepresentation of palmaris profundus type 1 variations in surgical reports.
