Abstract

This article provides a historical overview of Quebec geography, discussing its development through textbooks, universities, and professional practice. It explores the unique perspectives and contributions of Quebec geography, including its focus on the North and engagement with indigenous issues. The article acknowledges criticisms of the discipline, such as its limited presence in schools and lack of participation in societal debates. The text also discusses the evolution of geography in Quebec over the past decade, highlighting changes in approaches, techniques, and education, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It emphasizes the need for geography to adapt to new conceptions of living together and ideological pluralism, particularly in areas such as climate, risks, extractivism, and surveillance technologies. The text concludes by presenting seven contributions that showcase the dynamism and ability of Quebec geography to engage in dialogue with a broader geographical community.
