Abstract

Recent studies in the field of urolithiasis have shed light on the use of laser lithotripsy, specifically with the introduction of the thulium fiber laser (TFL) as a potential alternative to the holmium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Ho: YAG) laser. These studies have examined the thermal effects and tissue responses associated with different laser parameters, emphasizing the importance of irrigation in mitigating thermal damage. However, further research is needed to explore long-term histopathological outcomes, functional implications, and the interaction between lasers and different stone compositions and anatomical contexts. Interdisciplinary collaborations and a multidimensional approach to research are necessary to advance laser lithotripsy and improve patient outcomes in urolithiasis management.
