Abstract
- A 61-year-old woman with a history of major paranoid psychosis and asthma developed a recurrence of severe acute respiratory distress syndrome while being treated with risperidone. Between October 2015 and June 2016, she experienced 19 episodes of acute respiratory decompensation, some of which required emergency and intensive care unit transfers. The ICU physician refused further transfer due to the high frequency of recurrence and difficulty with extubation. The recurrence of respiratory distress syndrome was considered to be a result of the risperidone treatment. After stopping the medication, the woman's respiratory status improved dramatically and the syndrome resolved. [Extracted from the article]
