Abstract
- This article discusses the importance of addressing social determinants of health (SDOHs) in order to improve overall patient health. Factors such as access to housing, food, transportation, and employment have significant effects on both healthy patients and those managing chronic diseases. The article raises questions about the role of orthopaedic surgeons in influencing patients' overall health and intervening in SDOHs. It emphasizes the need for a balance between being responsible for SDOHs and recognizing the limits of intervention. The article suggests that surgeons can play a role in identifying and discussing SDOHs with patients, regardless of the payment model in place. [Extracted from the article]
