Abstract

The Biden administration has announced a partnership with 21 states to accelerate the upgrade and expansion of the U.S. transmission infrastructure. This initiative aims to address the challenges posed by politics and technology shortfalls that have hindered the growth of clean energy capacity. The effort includes the deployment of new grid technology and commercially available grid-enhancing technology. Additionally, the increasing power demand from data centers and artificial intelligence is highlighted, with projections showing that data centers alone could consume up to 9% of total U.S. electricity generation by 2030. The U.S. energy sector is working to meet the demands of AI, data centers, and other industries while balancing decarbonization efforts and maintaining reliable and affordable power for all customers.
