Abstract

This article, published in ChemCatChem, explores the electrocatalytic activity of bismuth ferrite (BFO) nanoparticles (NPs) doped with manganese (Mn) for the hydrogen evolution reaction. The researchers found that the activity of the NPs improved when mono-, di-, and tri-valent cations were substituted at the Bi site. This enhancement was attributed to a reduction in charge transfer resistance, increased surface area, and the introduction of novel active sites through the dopants. The unique morphology, varied pore sizes, and surface defects of the NPs also contributed to reducing the kinetic overpotential.
