Abstract

The aim of the contribution is to stimulate critical reflection on the complex links between educational poverty and merit, emphasising the crucial role of schools in mitigating socio-economic and cultural inequalities. The needis for a comprehensive effort to address the structural causes of educational poverty, valuing diversity and ensuring formative and appreciative assessment. The pedagogical challenge lies in balancing excellence with equity in the education system, rewarding the contribution of the individual without, however, generating harmful competition among students.
