Abstract

OLED technology utilizes the light-emitting properties of organic materials to achieve independent color control over each pixel and even enable turning off specific pixels. These features enable OLED screens to display dark color more accurately than LCD. This paper explores the advancements in OLED technology regarding hardware structures, color control, and dimming methods. Pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming involves rapidly cycling the emission of light on and off, and provides efficient brightness control. However, some individuals may be more sensitive to potential visual fatigue or flickering. PWM dimming in OLED displays also poses potential risks to vision impairment, as it differs from traditional methods in controlling brightness. To address the drawbacks of PWM dimming, smartphone manufacturers have developed a method called "DC-like dimming." This method adjusts pixel levels closer to black or white without altering the actual screen brightness, thus reducing visual fatigue and potential eye harm. Future improvements may involve setting a lower minimum emission voltage with an additive approach to adjust brightness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
