Abstract
- This document is a comment on a study conducted in Japan on the treatment of severe ulcerative colitis (UC). The study examined the outcomes of different therapies, including biologics and Janus kinase inhibitors, in 221 inpatient cases over a one-year period. The authors found that the short-term efficacy of these advanced therapies was satisfactory, but there was limited data available beyond two weeks for clinical remission and one month for colectomy. The comment authors propose a modality for severe UC that involves using infliximab as a first-line medication and incorporating a plant-based diet during hospitalization. They claim that this approach has shown promising results in both UC and Crohn's disease, with high remission rates and low colectomy rates. They recommend further exploration of this modality for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. [Extracted from the article]
