Abstract

Introduction: People facing a breast cancer diagnosis may be subjected to high levels of stress due to feelings of uncertainty, helplessness or hopelessness. Objectives: To analyze some stills from the television series The Girls at the Back as a coping strategy for dealing with difficulties that may be encountered after a breast cancer diagnosis. Methodology: It is based on a qualitative methodology through a filmic analysis by means of Vanistendael's theoretical approach and a scientific evaluation from her aesthetic experience. Results: As a coping strategy, elements are obtained from the viewing that help to obtain greater emotional balance through greater self-knowledge, self-control, internal and external dialogue as a therapeutic means, traveling as a transformative means or the willingness to help from the group of friends. Conclusions: From the study we obtain the importance of resilience as a coping strategy in the face of an unexpected diagnosis, since constant stress due to the uncertainty generated by the disease can compromise the defense mechanisms and can weaken the immune system.
