After the Industrial Revolution, a transformative period commenced in human history, marked by the emergence of new technologies and sciences that impacted every factor of society. Following the colonization of Muslim-majority regions by non Muslim powers, traditional Muslim judicial systems which were supervised by Muslim judges, were replaced by Western legal frameworks. Unlike the systematic codification of Western law, Islamic legal principles had historically remained less structured. The implementation of Islamic jurisprudence remained a fundamental aspiration among Muslims; however, the circumstances prompted a dire need for the systematic codification and legislation of Islamic legal doctrines. This article examines the concepts of legislation and the initiatives undertaken to codify Islamic jurisprudence in Muslim-majority countries, highlighting the important role of legislation in the enforcement of Islamic law.
