Abstract

The article discusses the barriers that transgender individuals face when seeking gender-affirming care, such as the requirement for assessments of gender identity or dysphoria and strict age requirements. The author argues that these barriers should be reconsidered in light of the principle of gender self-determination, which asserts that individuals have the right to define and express their own gender identity. The article emphasizes that gender-affirming care is not a means of treating pathology but rather a way for individuals to shape themselves from a gendered perspective. The author concludes by calling on healthcare providers to examine their gatekeeping practices and justify any barriers to gender-affirming care. [Extracted from the article]
