Highlight of 2023: Virtues and vices of CD4 CAR T cells.

This article discusses recent research on CD4 CAR T cells and their role in CAR T cell therapy (CTT). CD4 CAR T cells have traditionally been seen as providing support to CD8 CAR T cells, but recent studies have shown that CD4 CAR T cells can directly kill tumor cells and control their growth. However, CD4 CAR T cells have also been found to contribute to cytokine release syndrome (CRS), a serious adverse event in CTT. The article highlights the need for a deeper understanding of the roles and mechanisms of CD4 CAR T cells in order to design safer and more effective CAR T cell products.
