Abstract

Syphilis is a chronic infectious disease with prevalence described since the 15th century. Although its etiological agent and also the forms of treatment are widely known, syphilis is still a major public health problem worldwide and is increasingly affecting young people. Objective: Conduct an integrative literature review on nursing care in the treatment and prevention of syphilis in young people. Methodology: This study deals with a bibliographical review of the integrative literature review method in the light of authors relevant to the theme, in view of the importance that nurses play in the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections, especially in Syphilis References: The searches were carried out in portals such as: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), SciELO. Data referring to the years 2000 to 2020 were collected and analyzed. Results: Data that integrate the spectrum of subjects related to the theme: performance of nursing care in the treatment and prevention of syphilis in young people. In the descriptor: nursing care, 6 articles were found; nursing in the treatment and prevention of syphilis in young people 4 articles were found; Syphilis were found 40 articles. Given the results obtained in the study through the search strategy, the authors outlined variables to better describe the evidence found in the research. Conclusion: It is concluded that the nurse's role is not limited only to prevention, but also to the management of STIs. The serious health consequences of STIs can occur years after infection, further impairing young people's ability to connect cause and effect. Nurses who are committed to the challenges of serving young people to prevent STDs can help by providing confidential care and promoting sexual health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
