Abstract
- The article is a reply to a letter to the editor regarding a study on the detection of intramyocardial fatty scars (IMFS) in diabetic patients without a history of coronary heart disease. The authors explain that while fatty areas in the myocardium are common, their origin is difficult to establish. The study focused on subendocardial or transmural lesions that are expected to derive from an ischemic process. The authors acknowledge that some of the fatty areas identified may have origins other than myocardial infarction, but they provide reasons to suggest that most of the IMFS were of post-infarction origin. They also discuss the challenges in distinguishing fat from fibrotic areas and the need for further research on the pathogenesis of IMFS. [Extracted from the article]
