Abstract
- The purpose of this research is to compare the shear strength and squeezing force of laminated wood by using laminated softwood as alternative wood for structural materials in order to reduce the logging of hardwood. The softwood as the object in this study are sengon and coconut wood. The laminated wood made by glueing the sengon-sengon and coconut-coconut wood were bonded with 60 MDGL of Poly Vinyl Acetate (PVAC) as adhesive. The squeezing force variations are 1 MPa, 2 MPa, and 3 MPa. The results showed that the shear strength values of sengon-sengon laminated wood are 154.59 kg/cm2, 197.49 kg/cm2 and 277.07 kg/cm2.. Meanwhile for coconut-coconut laminated wood are 17.18 kg/cm2, 31.77 kg/cm2 and 39.64 kg/cm2. The concluded of this research based on the test results of the shear strength values from sengon-sengon and coconut-coconut laminated wood, the maximum squeezing force is 3 MPa.
