Abstract

The widespread application of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has brought forth the challenge of ensuring data security and integrity. This research proposed a blockchain-based IoT edge offloading strategy focused on data protection. The strategy involved uploading IoT device data to the blockchain, utilizing its immutability and traceability to enhance data security. Given the high computational demands of the blockchain's proof of work (PoW) consensus algorithm for data verification and block addition, edge computing technology was employed to offload the PoW consensus process to edge servers. Furthermore, it developed a multi-objective edge offloading algorithm(MEOA) to identify the optimal offloading strategy and dynamically adjusted the PoW consensus difficulty, balancing system security with operational efficiency. Simulation results show that this strategy outperforms others in enhancing the chaining efficiency of IoT device data and reducing time and energy costs, while ensuring data security and integrity.
