The Federal Opium Agency of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) informs patients about the rules for carrying narcotic-containing medications on trips abroad. In general, such medications may be carried for a travel duration of 30 days, but additional regulations and restrictions may apply in different countries. A certified travel certificate is usually required, especially for medical cannabis. The German Medical Association (BÄK) and the Working Group of Medical Ethics Committees in Germany (AKEK) have decided on a procedure to standardize professional legal advice for research projects in order to reduce the effort for applicants of multicenter studies.
