Abstract
- Purpose: The objective of this work was to identify the mechanisms through which symbolic violence is exercised and to point out possible distinctions between the symbolic violence suffered by quota students and non-quota students. Design/methodology/approach: The research used Bourdieusian sociology combined with the qualitative method of oral history and the technique of narrative analysis. Research, Practical & Social implications: Contributes to the investigation of practices of symbolic violence in the academic field after the Quotas Law came into force, using the Bourdieusian theory. Originality/value: The study of the symbolic violence suffered by quota students and non-quota students reveals the importance of policies and actions to support students with the aim of offering healthy conditions for permanence in the academic field.
