Abstract

Mathematical theories are considered in many different aspects in life including movies. One of the prominent movies shows the application of disease compartmental model to trace the spreading of a menace virus between different locations. Other than the compartmental model, network theory is also an important tool to locate the source of infection. We are interested in the spatial epidemiology problem locating the spread of a virus and, ultimately, computing the spreading duration. We use both the compartmental and network models to explore a recurrent disease spreading using different network structures. Applying two patches SIS model to find a weight between two nodes and minimum spanning tree to find a virus propagation time, we find different results when various networks are considered in our model. Larger mean degree of network tends to yield quicker spreading duration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
