Abstract

The article discusses the features of Windows' Copilot+ AI on new laptops. While the hardware for AI tasks is ready, the actual features built into Windows are not making full use of it. The Copilot+ PC does not offer any extra upgrades to the Copilot AI chatbot and the new Copilot app experience is considered a step back. The AI image generation tools integrated into various apps require a Microsoft account and an active internet connection to work. Live Captions on a Copilot+ PC can now work offline and translate speech from 44 different languages to English. Windows Studio Effects, which change how your webcam looks in real time, are not new and do not require a Copilot+ PC. The Recall feature, which takes screenshots of your PC's display every five seconds, was pulled before launch due to privacy and security concerns. Overall, the AI features on Copilot+ PCs are considered tech demos and the vision is for third-party developers to leverage the hardware to add AI features to their own applications. It is recommended to buy hardware based on its current capabilities rather than future promises. However, if you are mainly interested in the battery life and performance of Copilot+ PCs, that may be a good reason to buy one. [Extracted from the article]
