Abstract

A study published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism found that children born to mothers with gestational diabetes have an increased risk of being overweight as they grow up. The study also found that intensive treatment of gestational diabetes during pregnancy improved outcomes for both mother and baby, but did not reduce the risk of childhood obesity. The researchers suggest that prevention and intensive management of gestational diabetes are important in reducing the risk of childhood obesity. They also recommend that children from gestational diabetes pregnancies adopt a healthy lifestyle from an early age to reduce the risk of future health problems. Further research is needed to better understand these relationships and develop effective health management strategies for women with gestational diabetes and their children.
