Abstract

The article discusses research which examined the prevalence of syphilis serology testing algorithm among laboratory participants in the College of American Pathologists proficiency testing program. The study surveyed the prevalence in the use of reverse-sequence algorithm, traditional algorithm and individual syphilis tests. Advantages of reverse-sequence testing algorithm include earlier diagnosis, higher sensitivity in late latent and tertiary syphilis and fewer biological false positives.
