Abstract
- A group of amateur astronomers conducted a project to measure the gravitational effect of Jupiter on starlight. Since 1919, astronomers have been measuring deflections of starlight near the Sun due to general relativity, but they had to wait for a total solar eclipse to observe this effect. Einstein proposed using Jupiter as a gravitational source, but technology at the time was not advanced enough. The group of amateurs, led by Don Bruns and Stan Moore, embarked on a project to measure Jupiter's deflection of starlight and successfully obtained data, although the results were larger than expected. They plan to continue their experiments using the Jovian moons instead of distant stars. [Extracted from the article]
