Abstract

Elon Musk's social-media company X has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against an advertising industry coalition, alleging that companies in the group illegally boycotted the platform. X claims that companies such as CVS Health, Mars Inc., and Unilever conspired to withhold billions of dollars in advertising to force the platform, formerly known as Twitter, to maintain certain safety standards. The boycott began in November 2022 after Musk acquired Twitter, and at least 18 brands associated with the coalition stopped advertising on the platform. X argues that the coalition violated antitrust laws by agreeing to a boycott, which X calls a "coercive exercise of market power." [Extracted from the article]
