Abstract

The development of district heating (DH) is a major objective of energy transition policies in France, since heating networks make it possible to massively use renewable energies. It is therefore important to understand the approach of energy transition adopted by local stakeholders. Interviews with stakeholders of five DH systems using more than 80% of renewable energies, lead to several observations. First of all, economic, environmental and social benefits of these networks are clearly identified by local actors. These benefits help to understand why those energies were chosen regarding local energies available, which can be sources of territorial value. District heating networks can be considered as collective projects, based on a shared vision of energy transition in the cities. Those projects imply very strong ambitions, driven by district heating stakeholders, who share a vision of future sustainable cities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
