Abstract

This article discusses the efforts of Karen Nickel and Dawn Chapman to clean up radioactive waste near their suburban St. Louis neighborhood in Missouri. The waste is a result of atomic waste storage in the region after World War II, with some radioactive material mixing with a local creek and accumulating at the West Lake Landfill. Chapman and Nickel founded Just Moms STL and have been advocating for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up the waste site. They have faced opposition from the landfill company and the EPA, but have made progress in containing the fumes and securing a cleanup plan. [Extracted from the article]
