Abstract
- This article discusses three books that explore different aspects of Catholicism in colonial Mexico. The first book, "The Franciscans in Colonial Mexico," edited by Thomas M. Cohen, Jay T. Harrison, and David Rex Galindo, provides a broad picture of Franciscans' missionary work in New Spain. The second book, "The Stations of the Cross in Colonial Mexico" by John F. Schwaller, examines the history and development of the devotion to the Stations of the Cross in Mexico. The third book, "Transforming Saints" by Charlene Villaseñor Black, discusses the transportation and transformation of female Catholic images from Spain to New Spain. These books highlight the adaptation and interaction between Spanish Catholicism and Indigenous cultures in colonial Mexico. [Extracted from the article]
