Abstract
- In a case series of 5 patients, four patients with dysthymia exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with various antidepressant drugs. These patients also received off-label treatment with amantadine, which resulted in significant improvement in their symptoms. The patients reported a reduction in anhedonia, improved motivation, and libido, and the discontinuation of amantadine did not lead to a recurrence of symptoms. No side effects were reported during the treatment with amantadine. This study suggests that amantadine may be a potential treatment option for dysthymia when other antidepressants are ineffective.
