Abstract

2.5D carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide composites (2.5D-C f SiCs) are extensively applied in the aerospace industry based on excellent properties. However, surface quality is an important challenge. This study proposes a new method to improve the surface quality by coating the surface with resin and extending the surrounding edges, followed by ultra-precision grinding. The experimental results showed that the resin coating improved the quality of the machined surface and reduced edge spalling. The resin coating effectively protects the composite surface from grinding damage, while the extension of the resin helps to reduce edge damage. Resin coating can improve the surface quality, resulting in a more uniform surface. Therefore, this method provides a new way to improve the application potential of 2.5D-C f -SiCs.
