Abstract
- This article presents news developments related to the computer industry in the U.S., as of August 1, 1966. Researcher Eric A. Walker, president of the Pennsylvania State University and chairman of the National Science Board, has been elected president of the National Academy of Engineering. Clarence H. Linder, retired vice president and group executive of the General Electric Co., was elected vice president of the Academy, also for a four-year term, to succeed Walker. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is gearing up for implementation of a crime information system centered in a computer system in Washington D.C. and connected to similar systems in the states. The first Sigma 7 computer sold by Scientific Data Systems will be used by Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank, Dallas, Texas, to develop better treatments for leukemia and other blood related diseases and more efficient hospital and blood banking operations. A computer in Milan and another in Stockholm have established a permanent communication link, Olivetti-General Electric has announced.
