Abstract
- In this study, some biological characteristics of the Mint aphid, Eucarazzia elegans (Ferrari) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) were determined on Mentha arvensis, M. dumetorum, M. pulegium, M. spicata and M. suaveolens mint varieties. The nymphs obtained from E. elegans individuals raised for this purpose were used in the experiment and the experiments were continued until all individuals died. The data obtained from the experiment were analyzed according to the theory of the two-sex life table. The longest pre-adult development time was 7.533 days in individuals reared on M. suaveolens and the shortest was 5.900 days in individuals reared on M. pulegium. The net reproductive rate (R0) of the mint aphid was highest in individuals reared on M. arvensis variety with 63.102 females/female. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) value was highest in individuals reared on M. pulegium cultivar, 0.371 females/female/day, and lowest in individuals reared on M. dumetorum variety, 0.252 females/female/day. The finite rate of increase (λ) was 1.450 day-1 in individuals reared on M. pulegium. The longest population doubling time (DT) value was calculated as 2.516 days in individuals reared on M. dumetorum variety. In this study, the mint variety M. pulegium was found to be more susceptible to E. elegans than other varieties. Mentha dumetorum variety is thought to be more resistant to E. elegans than other varieties. It is thought that it would be more appropriate to cultivate M. dumetorum mint variety, which is determined to be resistant in areas heavily contaminated with E. elegans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
