Abstract

In this research, 14 sites in Baghdad city were prepared to study the electric power generation emission black carbon exhaust to determine the metallic elements leaking into the outdoor air. Two techniques were used to make the measurements. Samples of black Carbon were collected by means of a smear test filter, then examined with an atomic absorption spectrometer in order to measuring the concentration of metallic elements. The radioactivity doses emitters were also assessed the samples using the radiation measurement system. The results show that the concentration of metals studied are (0.057-0.081) ppm for Mg, (0.1-0.6) ppm for Si, (2.1-3.4) ppm for Ca and (1.0-1.83) ppm. for Fe metal range is (1.0 - 1.83) ppm and these values is very high related to the average value of 0.00133 ppm reported at Health Effects Notebook for Hazardous Air Pollutants (EPA). (As) range is (0.1 - 0.8) ppm, this value is very high related to the limit value of 1.6 x 10-6 ppm reported by EPA. (Pb) range is (8.2 - 9.81) ppm, this value is very high related to the limit value of 41.6 x 10-6 ppm reported by EPA. As well as. The results of radiation show that the alpha emitters are less than the value of the detection limit of the measurement system utilized in this work. While, the beta and gamma dose emitters in the range of background radiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
