Abstract

The article, titled "Progress, politics and the place of elite black African women in Kenya’s extractive sector," explores the experiences of elite black African women working in Kenya's extractive sector. The dissertation challenges mainstream feminist theories and methods, arguing that they fail to effectively engage with the experiences of black African women in this traditionally masculine sector. The study adopts African feminisms as an alternative lens for understanding the intersection of race, gender, and elitism in the extractive sector. It also examines the role of place-making and the construction of the ideal worker body in shaping the experiences of black African women in the sector. [Extracted from the article]
