Abstract

The Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) has updated their clinical guidelines for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. The guidelines provide a comprehensive summary of the latest evidence for the assessment and treatment of MDD, including various treatment options such as psychological, pharmacological, and digital health interventions. The guidelines emphasize the importance of combining psychological approaches with pharmacotherapy and provide recommendations for treatment evaluation. However, there are variations in advice on treatment strategies among different guidelines, particularly regarding the use of lithium and ketamine as adjunct-treatments. In the future, there may be a shift towards personalized treatment approaches based on individual molecular features and the integration of artificial intelligence in the development of clinical guidelines.
