Abstract
- This article focuses on news briefs related to technology firms. Five leading technology firms will work together to develop the next generation of software. Digital Equipment Corp., Texas Instruments, Ford Motor Co., U.S. West and the Carnegie Group have formed the Initiative for Managing Knowledge Assets with combined contributions totalling $10 million. Another news is related to supercomputers. U.S. and European researchers will soon be sharing supercomputers via an underwater fiber-optic network. The transoceanic link will allow nine West European nations access to six U.S. supercomputers, including the National Supercomputer Facility at Cornell University. The U.S. Department of Commerce is organizing a trade delegation of U.S. manufacturers to London and Stockholm. Scheduled for October 15, 1990, the DoC's MatchMaker event will target the U.S. computer, software and peripheral industries whose products maintain a position of dominance in these two European nations.
